CCEL -- What's New

• Added a preliminary version of Calvin's Commentaries, complete. This edition needs further work and is subject to change. It is a result of the joint efforts of volunteers for the CCEL and the OnLine Bible project and the good folks at @Ages Software. The files currently on line are HTML exported from Word 2000 and modified with a perl program to remove some of the ms-specific extensions to HTML. The files are large, averaging around 1MB and topping out at over 2MB. Skip Gaeda and Bruce Lambert are working on conversion to ThML and thence to OnLine Bible format. If you are interested in helping out, let me know (@whp).

• Added Judges and Ruth to Matthew Henry's [unabridged] Commentary and a revision of BW Johnson's People's New Testament, all from Ernie Stefanik.
• Added PDF scan files for T.M. Lindsay's The Church and the Ministry in the Early Centuries (1903)
• Added one-file HTML and DOC versions of Alfred Edersheim's The Temple--It's Ministry and Services and Sketches of Jewish Social Life

• Added Thomas Shepard (1605-1649) work The Change of the Sabbath [78k]

• Added the two volumes of Edersheim's Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah. These are important works. However, they are only available as large text files and it appears they could use some proofreading. Contributed by PW; gleaned from a newsgroup.

• Added files for Joshua to the uncondensed version of Matthew Henry's Commentary, in progress by Ernie Stefanik.
• Added The Ascent of Man by Henry Drummond, Transcribed by Phil Potter
• Added The New Evangelism and other Papers by Henry Drummond, transcribed by Phil Potter

• Added a quick HTML version of Schaff's 8-volume History of the Christian Church, made by exporting the Electonic Bible Society RTF files as HTML in Word 2000. A better version is in the works -- but this one isn't bad.

• Added one-file HTML editions of Andrew Murray's The Lord's Table and F. B. Meyer's The Secret of Guidance. These are exported in HTML format directly from Word 2000. Take a look at the HTML that Word 2000 generates -- it captures everything in the word file! I think I'll start archiving these HTML files rather than RTF files, since everything in the RTF file is in the HTML file.

  I do plan to format these and other books in ThML, though, so we can make multiple file versions and have the other features offered by ThML.

• Added Deuteronomy of the (uncondensed) Matthew Henry Commentary, being prepared by Ernie Stefanik.

• The Czech Bible, being prepared by George Somsel. So far, Genesis through Song of Songs are available.

• The following etexts have been generated from XML files in Theological Markup Language (ThML). These are the first, but the hope is eventually that all major books on the CCEL be in ThML format. Please give me feedback on the HTML that has been generated, as the program that generates HTML is still under development.

• In honor of the 250th Anniversary of the death of Dr. Isaac Watts, who lived 17th July 1674 - 25th November 1748, Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts has been added.

  This was scanned and formatted in ThML by Stephen Hutcheson and converted to HTML by a program. (Hopefully all of the most important CCEL books will eventually be formatted in ThML and converted to HTML with a successor of this program.)

• Added Matthew Henry's Commentary on Exodus, being edited by Ernie Stefanik. These files have not yet been proofread and made to conform to the Revell edition.

• Added Genesis of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible -- unabridged edition. Ernie Stefanik has taken on this large task (Genesis is about 2 MB).

• Added RTF files of Schaff's History of the Christian Church, an 8-volume set, courtesy the Electronic Bible Society. These files need to be formatted in ThML for conversion to HTML, etc., which will be a big job.
