Frequently Asked Questions -------------------------------------------- Q. What is the Acrobat Reader software? A. Acrobat Reader is a document viewer written by Adobe Systems. It has become an industry standard for maintaining and viewing electronic documents due to its flexibility and ease of use. For these same reasons, we at AGES Software chose the Acrobat Reader as the viewing software for our Spurgeon Library. Q. Should I Use My Current Version Of Acrobat Reader? A. As a rule, no. Your Library comes with a special version of the Reader called "Adobe Acrobat Reader Search" The last word is important: "Search" makes it possible to do complex searches of the Library books. Please install the enclosed version. Q. How do I start the Spurgeon Library? A. Double-click on the icon "SPURGEON" on your desktop or on the file "SPURGEON.PDF" on the CD. Q. How do I copy text out of the Spurgeon and paste it into a word processor? A. First, choose the Text Selection tool (it's the button on the tool bar with "ABC" on it). Then highlight the text you want to copy. Next, go to the "Edit" menu and choose "Copy". Now, go to your word processor, go to its "Edit" menu, and choose "Paste". The copied text will then appear. Q. Can I copy more than one page at a time? A. Yes. You may need to turn on continuous page mode by going to the "View" menu and choosing "Continuous". Q. I'm experiencing some errors or my Reader won't open. How do I get the Library to work again? A. Although rare on the Mac Platform, certain issues may arise. Check the following: 1) You have too many fonts in the font folder. The limit is 128 suitcases. If you have too many fonts, the symbol font wont be seen by Acrobat (and other programs) but Acrobat MUST have the Symbol font to work. 2) The "ATM Font Database" file (an item that is loose in your system folder) is present and broken and must be tossed. (It is not needed with this version of the Reader.) 3) You may be installing with an application running or virus protection on and the installer is choking on something. To avoid such issues altogether, copy the ACRO_MAC folder to your hard drive, reboot with extensions off (shift key down) and then install the Reader (i.e., open the (ACRO_MAC folder and double-click on the install icon) 4) The 4 substitution font files in the font folder of your System Folder are broken. (Adobe Sans MM, Adobe Serif MM, AdobeSanMM, AdobeSerMM) Remove them then reinstall the Acrobat Reader as explained in 3). 5) There is a quirk that can happen where the desktop file gets corrupted and Acrobat cannot find certain fonts. Solution: rebuild the desktop file (i.e., Restart with option and command keys down until box appears asking if you wish to rebuild your desktop.
