This is the complete text of the eighth printed edition.
Julian's Dictionary of Hymnology notes that the
tenth addition added six poems.
These features of the printed text have been modified:
- Page numbers were preserved only at the beginning of hymns.
- Orthography was edited to facilitate automated use:
- Decrypted Roman numerals in hymn numbers and Bible chapters
- Converted Bible references to “chapter:verse” format
- Removed word wrapping and concomitant hyphenation.
- Americanized spelling of “Savior” to be consistent with “honor”, etc).
- Localized footnotes
- Added meters
- ThML markup (assuming HTML semantics of whitespace)

- Addition of texts from 10th edition
